A Rememberance Initiative for Rwanda

Testimonies

The survivors of the Rwandan genocide have a need and a desire. Their very survival depends on it. That need is to share their stories, to release the horrors and tragedies bottled up inside them. The survivors, women, children, boys, girls - all of them - witnessed death and destruction in a way that the words on this website cannot ever totally convey. Yet to move on with their respective lives, to pick up the shattered pieces and to move on both physically and psychologically, these victims must confront their past, their histories.

SURF provides this forum for survivors. By giving survivors access to the world as an audience, yet in a way that absolutely protects their privacy, Survivors Fund is working to heal the emotion wounds inflicted by the genocide. It will be a long process, to be sure, but every step in the right direction helps.

So read their stories. Relive their terror and pain. Watch their worlds, their families and their lives as they are destroyed. Share their loss and learn from the tragedies. After reading these horrific histories, you too shall say "Never again!"

There are a few testimonies posted on the pages of the SURF website. The majority of testimonies have been posted on the Hearing and Healing: A Remembrance Initiative for Rwanda site.

WARNING: The testimonies contained on this site are of a horrific and brutal nature. Some of them are graphic and disturbing. SURF does not intend to insult by posting these troubling accounts. Rather, SURF hopes to expose the genocide for what it was: a slaughter of humanity that must never be allowed to happen again
