As part of the 10th anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide,
Survivors Fund (SURF) launched a Memory and Remembrance
initiative to sustain the memory and the lessons of
the genocide. The project will record, document, preserve
and disseminate the personal life histories of the survivors
of the Rwandan genocide in books, videotapes and cassettes.
Working with local survivors partners, the project will
focus particularly on documenting memories and life
stories for those children whose adult carers are dying,
or who are already orphaned.
This website is part of the rememberance initiative.
The testimonies posted here have been collected from
survivors of the Rwandan genocide. They are being placed
online to that the world can know what happened in Rwanda
over the course of 100 days in April 1994. They are
hear to give voice to the survivors and to pay tribute
to the victims.
Please note: the names of any survivors who
have provided the testimonies posted on this site have
been changed to protect their identity.
