SURF supporter begins world record marathon bid

London – October 2008

Nick TwomeySURF supporter, Nick Twomey, is attempting to break the world record to be the youngest person to run marathons on all 7 continents, and in the process raise funds for SURF. Last week Nick completed the Berlin Marathon, the first of what he hopes will be 12 marathons in the next 9 months. Highlights will include marathons in Antarctica, Hawaii and along the Great Wall of China.

Nick became involved with SURF as a volunteer whilst at the London Oratory School. He says:

"Since helping out there and on Rwanda Day (an event held at the school) I have been humbled to realise how lucky I am to be in a part of the world where I can live freely without fear for my life, and for that very basic reason, a factor which is taken for granted by millions including myself, I want to try to make a small contribution to supporting those who have not been so fortunate."

SURF is one of two charities that Nick will be donating funds raised from the marathon effort. He has already raised £1,000 to his target of £5,000.
