Payroll Giving

You can make a big difference to the lives of survivors. Make a gift to SURF through your pay packet. Tell your employer how much you want to give and how often. Then your gift is transferred to SURF from your pre-tax wage without you having to do anything else.

As SURF works with survivors on a long-term basis, payroll gifts are ideal as they allow us to plan our work and resources now and in the future.

Payroll giving is a flexible scheme that enables you to make charitable donations straight from your gross salary (before tax has been deducted). This means that you get immediate tax relief on the value of your donation. Therefore, for a basic rate taxpayer wanting to give a £10 donation, it will only cost £7.80. Furthermore, many employers are encouraging the scheme by matching their employees' donations.

You can give regularly in this way by authorising your employer to deduct up a monthly amount, but payroll giving can also be applied to one-off donations. All you need to do is choose how much you want to give; tell your payroll department and they will do the rest; payments are deducted straight from your salary

If you are a UK taxpayer, paid through PAYE, your company is almost certainly eligible to offer payroll giving (they may refer to the scheme using a specific brand name, such as Give As You Earn). If your employer doesn't offer a payroll giving scheme, why don't you suggest it to them? It will be easier than they may think, and organisations such as the Charities Aid Foundation (tel: 01732 520011) can offer advice.
